[Photography.Cameras] Steve's Digicams

steves-digicams.com Posted by Hello
The consumer's best source for digital camera information and news
Steve is a photography vet who's been working with cameras for over 30 years and for the last 8 of them he's been reviewing digital cameras in great depth. This site has become my go to site for finding myself or my friends/family the camera of their dreams. Everyone wants something different in a camera and while Steve does have a list of his favorites, the reviews which tell (and show) you everything you could possibly want to know about each camera, allow you to pick the one with the features you desire.

The site also has a great blog of the top camera related news stories.

[Computers.Apple] Mac Rumors

macrumors.com Posted by Hello
The goal of Mac rumors is to compile interesting news and rumors from all sources to try to create a big picture view of what to expect from Apple, Inc.
Rumor has it that today is the day Apple will be introducing new iPods. Mac Rumors is the site I turn to anytime I need info on the little company in Cupertino. They do a great job of posting reputable information. They even have a section called Page 2 where they post some of the more "out there" rumors.

[Fonts] Fontleech

fontleech.com Posted by Hello

If you’re like me (and I’m counting on that), you’ve spent many a sleepless night scouring the web for free fonts that don’t suck. Undoubtedly, you’ve discovered that finding quality, free typefaces requires sifting through a lot of crap. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone did all that sifting for you?

Well that’s where Fontleech comes in. Every day we’ll tip you off to hidden gems from the free font world. We’ll be spotlighting the best foundries offering free typefaces. We’ll (hopefully) be bringing you interviews with some of the heavy hitters on the free font scene. We’ll be bringing you, uhhh… free font news.

This is a brand new site, but it's an idea I really like. (In fact, back in my younger days I used to run one of the larger free font archives on the Net, but enough about me.) Finding free fonts sucks. Most of the Google results for "free fonts" are dead end pages covered in advertising with no useful information. This site does the work for you and they hope to eventually have a large database of the best free font sites out there. We at White Hot Now wish them the best of luck.

[Movies.Trailers] Dave's Trailer Page

davestrailerpage.co.uk Posted by Hello

While most popular movie trailers eventually end up on Apple's Movie Trailers page they usually are not the first source and they don't tend to cover some of the indie and foreign trailers that are out there on the Internet. A guy named Dave from the UK picks up the slack and compiles one of the best simple lists of direct links to movie trailers I've found. A great site for a boring Friday at work.

[Humor] Improv Everywhere

improveverywhere.com Posted by Hello
Improv Everywhere is, at its core, about having fun. We're big believers in "organized fun". In the process we bring excitement to otherwise unexciting locales and give strangers a story they can tell for the rest of their lives. We're out to prove that a prank doesn't have to involve humiliation or embarrassment; it can simply be about making someone smile.
This site is funny. I've been keeping up on their adventures for some time now and they never fail to get me laughing aloud in my cube at work.

It's a simple idea really. A bunch of people get together and plan out some kind of odd or out-of-place event. They carry out the event without ever breaking character or letting any of the witnesses in on the plan. They get enough photos, videos and actor/witness accounts to create some rather hilarious tales and they post them for the world to see.

[Crime] The Smoking Gun

thesmokinggun.com Posted by Hello
The Smoking Gun brings you exclusive documents--cool, confidential, quirky--that can't be found elsewhere on the Web. Using material obtained from government and law enforcement sources, via Freedom of Information requests, and from court files nationwide, we guarantee everything here is 100% authentic.
Face it, people do some pretty odd stuff. The Smoking Gun digs through the piles of paperwork that stack up in various government entities and bring you the best of celebrity scandal and crazy crimes. They point out the interesting notes and provide their own commentary (which doesn't always take "innocent until proven guilty" into consideration).
